Fracture of the Shoulder-blade.The signs of this affection are pain in moving the shoulder and tenderness upon pressure over the shoulder-blade. By careful manipulation we can sometimes detect a grating sensation between the two fragments. Treatment.- The muscles attached to the back part of the shoulder-blade must be relaxed, in order that the two fragments shall be kept in their proper position. This is done by passing a sling made of a large handkerchief under the elbow and around the neck. This is drawn somewhat tight, so that the shoulder is a little higher than the opposite one. The elbow is then to be bound to the side of the body by a broad bandage passed around the arm and chest. The healing process usually requires four or five weeks, and care must be taken in avoiding muscular effort with this arm for some weeks more.
